Our climate footprint

Measure, reduce, improve.

Understanding the impact of our activities is the first step towards reducing it. For this reason, Acqua dell’Elba measures the greenhouse gas emissions associated with its operations and value chain every year, identifying the main sources of emissions and the areas where we can take action. Our journey towards measuring our climate footprint began in 2021 and has evolved over the years through a gradual expansion of the scope of analysis and continuous improvements in data quality and the methodologies used.

Today, emissions are quantified in accordance with ISO 14064-1, as part of a broader commitment to managing and improving our environmental performance, supported by our ISO 14001-certified Environmental Management System and our ongoing process towards EMAS registration.

From measurement to action

Measuring means, above all, understanding where our environmental impact is concentrated and using this information to identify the priorities on which to focus our efforts.

Based on the results of our emissions inventory, we define and implement reduction measures covering, among other areas, energy, materials, packaging, production processes, logistics, mobility and our value chain. Ongoing monitoring allows us to assess the effectiveness of the actions taken, update our priorities and progressively integrate environmental objectives into business decisions, product design and relationships with our suppliers.

Our contribution to climate action

Over the years, Acqua dell’Elba has complemented its measurement and emission reduction activities with voluntary support for certified climate projects, through the purchase and retirement of carbon credits verified according to recognised standards.

These initiatives have represented a contribution to projects carried out outside Acqua dell’Elba's operations. They do not replace the reduction of our own emissions and do not alter the climate footprint of our products.

Starting with the 2025 emissions inventory, we have chosen to evolve this approach, moving away from the annual offsetting of emissions through the purchase of an equivalent number of carbon credits.

Our priority today is to use an increasingly accurate understanding of our climate footprint to define a long-term emissions reduction pathway, addressing the main sources of emissions across our operations and value chain.

We will continue to assess, year by year, the possibility of allocating resources to external projects that can make a tangible contribution to climate and environmental action. These initiatives will be considered an additional contribution alongside our emissions reduction efforts and may take different forms, without necessarily involving the purchase of carbon credits.

A journey of continuous improvement

Our goal is to continue along a path based on measurement, transparency, reduction and continuous improvement.

Each new inventory allows us to gain a better understanding of our environmental footprint, identify the areas where we can make the greatest impact and assess the effectiveness of the actions taken over time.

We aim to build our environmental journey for the coming years on this ability to measure with increasing accuracy, set priorities and turn them into concrete actions.
